Do gas fireplaces require a chimney?
by lopiadmin /
Firstly, what is a Chimney? A chimney can often be referring to the vent/flue used by the fireplace. A chimney more traditionally (at least in Australia) refers to the brick/masonry stack built to house an open fire.
You do not require a brick chimney stack for a gas fireplaces in most cases. Some fireplaces require masonry around them, but most Lopi gas fireplaces use direct vent technology, which allows them to vent safely through an exterior wall rather than a traditional chimney. Most models can be built into a timber frame or even be freestanding. This makes them ideal for homes that lack existing chimneys or for rooms where installing a chimney is impractical.
