What is a chimney?

A chimney is defined by “A hollow structure that allows the smoke from a fire inside a building, esp. from a fireplace, to escape to the air outside.”

It is the external hollow structure mainly made up of bricks, that appears to be sitting on top of the roof of a house or building, which can be seen from afar.
